Flame retardancy in hotel and hospital curtains

Why flame retardancy matters for curtains in public spaces, and the options we offer.

Flame retardancy in hotel and hospital curtains

In public spaces such as hotels, hospitals and schools, curtains are not chosen on looks alone. The project specification often sets the fabric's flame-retardant performance too.

Options for our contract textiles

  • Certified permanent or temporary flame retardancy on request
  • Delayed-ignition finish on request

Which one fits depends on the project specification and how the space is used. We decide this together with you at the quote stage.

The fabric itself

All our dimout and sheer fabrics are 100% polyester (PES), uncoated and machine washable, and any of them can be made into flame retardant fabrics on request.

Documents

We can send copies of our flame-retardancy and delayed-ignition test reports with your quote. Share your project specification and we will suggest the right fabric and finish.

Standards often named in specifications

Flame retardancy is measured against different standards in different countries. Project specifications most often ask for:

  • NFPA 701: the US fire test for curtain and sheer fabrics
  • M1: the best fire classification for building materials in France
  • BS 5867 Type B: the UK standard for curtains in hotels, hospitals and public buildings
  • DIN 4102 B1: the German class for flame-retardant materials

Tell us which standard your specification names, and we will choose the fabric and finish to match.
